Methodology

How the numbers are made. Every one of them.

Each price is a registrar’s own listed price, read from its API, with the time it was read. Nothing is estimated, converted or projected.

Capture

Once a day

Every registrar’s list is read at 10:23 UTC. Every day is kept, so each change has a date.

Failed reads

The last good price stays, with its own time. Older than 36 hours is marked on the page.

Searched names

Priced live at every registrar for that exact name, premium included, except where marked “Std. rate”.

Definitions

First year
What you pay at checkout for the shortest term. Longer minimums (.ai: 2 years) are paid upfront, shown per year and in total.
Renewal
The registrar’s standard yearly renewal price today.
Transfer
Moving a domain you own to that registrar. Usually adds a year; .uk moves free and adds none.
Restore fee
Getting a domain back after it expires and the grace period ends, as the price list shows it.
True cost
First term plus yearly renewals at today’s standard prices, at one registrar, over 1, 2 or 5 years.
Cheapest · typical · highest
The lowest, median and highest total across registrars. A spread, not a “±”: every input is an exact price.
Announced changes
Shown next to the true cost as “if passed on in full”. Never added in; nothing unannounced is projected.
Promo
A renewal more than 1.5 times the first-year price.
Price change
A standard price that moves by at least $0.50 or 5% from one day to the next.

What we don’t do

No estimates

No coupon codes, and a price a registrar doesn’t list is left blank.

No conversion

USD only. A registrar that prices only in another currency isn’t included.

No paid placement

Some buy links are affiliate links. They never change the order.
