How the index is made
Defined like an index provider would. Anyone can recompute it from the CSV.
- Weighting
- Equal: each of the 20 extensions counts the same.
- Measure
- Median standard (non-premium) renewal per year across the registrars that list each extension, read daily at 10:23 UTC.
- Linking
- Chain-linked daily over registrars with a price on both days, so a registrar joining or missing a day never moves it.
- Base
- Sep 26, 2026 = 100, the first day all 20 extensions were captured.
- Review
- Basket reviewed once a year. Any change is logged below.
- Not included
- First-year promotions, premium names, coupon codes, and announced changes until registrars’ prices actually move.
