How TLDMath works
Domain registrars compete on the first-year price and make it up on renewals. TLDMath exists to show the whole bill before you buy.
Live, per-domain prices
When you search a name, we query each registrar’s API for that exact domain: availability, premium status, registration, renewal and transfer price. Results are cached for ten minutes. If any registrar says a name is taken, we treat it as taken.
Ranking by two-year cost
We rank registrars by what it costs to hold the domain for two years: the first year plus one renewal, or the full minimum term for extensions like .ai. The cheapest first-year offer is shown separately, so promos are visible without winning by default.
Naming help
“Describe my project” asks Claude to rank the TLDs that fit your project and brainstorm ten names, then checks which of those are actually free. It also checks whether each name is taken on GitHub, npm, PyPI, crates.io and YouTube, and links to the official trademark databases. Ideas are a starting point, not legal clearance.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell domains or take payment. You buy at the registrar.
- We don’t invent prices. If a registrar’s API doesn’t return a price, the cell is blank.
- Affiliate links, where they exist, never change the order.
